Scope of Work

MD Acoustics was engaged to provide comprehensive noise and vibration impact studies for several specialized outdoor venues, including the 560-seat terraced Viewpoint School Amphitheater and the historic Wrigley Mansion Garden Terrace. The efforts focused on establishing 24-hour and multi-day baseline noise measurements to evaluate how amplified speech and music would propagate across unique topographies. Utilizing SoundPLAN 3D acoustical modeling software, the team assessed operational noise impacts in relation to strict municipal codes and CEQA significance thresholds.

Outcome

Through advanced 3D modeling and real-world data calibration, MD Acoustics identified critical strategies to balance high-quality performance audio with community noise standards. At Wrigley Mansion, the analysis successfully demonstrated that a distributed audio system could reduce off-site noise by a “clearly noticeable” 10 dB compared to standard setups. These findings provided clients with data-driven roadmaps for mitigation, ranging from physical barriers to optimized speaker placement—ensuring that the venues could operate successfully without exceeding local noise limits.
